Kong International Airport ( HKIA ) – comparison of results between numerical models
نویسنده
چکیده
The Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) is situated in an area of complex terrain. To its south is the mountainous Lantau Island with peaks rising to about 1000 m AMSL with v alleys as low as 400 m in between. Terrain-disrupted airflow could occur ov er and around HKIA when the prev ailing winds are from east to southwest, in particular when strong east to southeasterly winds blow over the airport in the spring under a stable boundary lay er, and when intense southwest monsoon affects the region in the summer. The airf low disturbances may be hazardous to the aircraft landing at and departingf rom HKIA, leading to low-lev el windshear and turbulence.

Reprint 519 Application of LIDAR backscattered power to visibility monitoring at the Hong Kong International Airport: some initial results
This paper describes the application of a Doppler Light Detection And Ranging (LIDAR) system to the monitoring of visibility at the Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA). The backscattered power data from the LIDAR are inverted by Klett’s method (1981) into extinction coefficient and then into atmospheric visibility. A plan position indicator (PPI) scan of the LIDAR thus enables the production...
متن کاملVisibility Trends in Hong Kong
Visibility observations at four stations in Hong Kong were analyzed. The locations of the four stations, namely the Hong Kong Observatory (HKO), Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA), Cheung Chau (CC) and Waglan Island (WI), are shown in Figure 1. HKO and HKIA are located in the urban area by the side of the Victoria Harbour. CC and WI are outlying islands situated over the southwestern and so...
متن کاملIdentifying the impact of large urban airports on local air quality by nonparametric regression
Emissions of air pollutants from aircraft in large urban areas are a health concern to nearby residents. This study examined hourly concentrations of CO, NOx, SO2, and respirable suspended particles (RSP) taken in the vicinity of Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). The LAX data cover the period August 1997 through March 1998 and the HKIA all of 20...
متن کاملCalculation of turbulence intensity based on spectrum width data of a Doppler LIDAR
In addition to low-level windshear (below 1600 feet), low-level turbulence could also adversely affect arriving/departing aircraft at the airport. Turbulent airflow may occur in clear-air/non-rainy weather conditions, e.g. terrain effect at the Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) or building’s disruptions at Haneda Airport (Tokyo International Airport) in Japan. Such airflow disturbances cou...
متن کاملLagrangian Coherent Structure Analysis of Terminal Winds Detected by Lidar. Part II: Structure Evolution and Comparison with Flight Data
Using observational data from coherent Doppler light detection and ranging (lidar) systems situated at the Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA), the authors extract Lagrangian coherent structures (LCS) intersecting the flight path of landing aircraft. They study the time evolution of LCS and compare them with onboard wind shear and altitude data collected during airplane approaches. Their res...
